Preston rocked out the Guitar Hero world last night. He was a first timer, and took it to the bank. This was a .8 sec shot with a slow sync flash (that's why his face is growing out of his other face).

Scary spider bug eating a bee
Definitely the creepiest photo I've ever taken. Thanks to Mark for finding this forsaken spider. What IS it? 8 legs, eating a bee? uf.

Saturday night
My wife is at work and I have a cold. Here's evidence of my Saturday night:
guitar hero controller (Guitar Hero 3 was calling), my camera (to upload yesterday's photo-a-day), and my Nalgene (cuz water makes you feel better). Not too bad.
I'd also like to take credit for doing dishes and cleaning up the house... it just wasn't in the frame, so I didn't mention it at first.

A.J.
The upside to being stuck in the drive thru for 15 minutes is that you have lots of time to take photos. This is one of them. btw, it was worth it--fried zucchini from Grand Burger is awesome. Almost as awesome as the bokeh here.

101 Secrets
Both Annie and I got the book 101 Secrets a Cool Mom Knows for Christmas. We aren't mothers, though. I think some presents were switched. So that means that there are 2 cool moms out there with our real presents. Ironically, my (cool) mom gave us these books/mistakes.

Theater 6 is up the stairs and to your left
I grew up going to the Glendora Mann 6. Back in the day, it was unreal that there were 6 movies playing in one place! Not only was this one of the first places I could go to without parent supervision, it featured hits like Short Circuit II and Spaceballs.
Now, however, it is nothing more than a pile of rubble. Heartless companies like AMC have now ripped apart my childhood. They did, however, provide a great photo-a-day, so it's really a bittersweet story.
btw, my favorite part of the shot is the missing staircase.
Day 11
Thursday, December 20, 2007
New car (not the smell, the car)
This is Isabelle's new car. It's a new (to us) Saturn. This is my first practical photo-a-day... meaning that there's actually a point to this shot.
My dad just got a new hip. He wanted to see this car that was parked outside his house, but couldn't walk (he has a new hip). So I snapped a quick shot and showed him on my camera. Problem solved.
You could never pull off something like this 100 years ago (unless you're Marty McFly (or older Biff)).

Chiesa Cattolica Sacro Cuore
Everything sounds more important (and fancy) in Italian.
Unless you speak Italian.

Merry X-mas
Christmas lights at night. Merry almost Christmas! (Should "almost" be capitalized? (In parenthesis?))

Flower a la Tim Burton
I helped Wayne move today. Since he's a rockin' photographer, I asked him if he has shot his driveway or these flowers. He said no, so I did. Sadly, the rocky driveway was out of focus where it counted, so this scary flower is the photo-a-day. It looks like it's gonna crawl over and attack you during a Danny Elfman song.

Self Serving
This is across the street from this shot taken exactly one year ago. The gas station is to the left, the older photo is to the right. I remembered it was about a year ago, but got a bit lucky that I guessed perfectly.

Shogun
We ate at Shogun and had some really good sushi. This photo is of the lanterns, though (not the sushi).

Photo-a-Day Year 1
Here's every shot from the last 365 days. If you haven't seen (every one of) these shots on the world map, do it: http://flickr.com/photos/billselak/map/
And if you've never been to my Flickr page, here's a cool place to start: http://flickr.com/photos/billselak/collections/
Thanks again for looking!

Downtown in the distance on the left, super busy 110 freeway on the right. This is one shot, but looks like a diptych. It seemed fitting for L.A.
Now, on to the big news! This is photo 365! I have one shot every day for a year! Here is a slideshow of the last 365 days. And like any epic adventure, it's time for the credits at the end. (and visit my Flickr page!) Special thanks to (in no particular order):

I've got the whole...
Feeling uninspired, I took a picture of my hand with a tile bathroom background. It was lame, so I added the world in my hand. It's a quick, silly job. Still not sure if the proportions are right...

Foothills at the 57
Here's the 57 freeway without traffic. You can see Mt. Baldy in the background, too. If you make a right off Temple Ave., there's a lame place to go to for lunch: Scoreboard. Avoid it.

Heartlight
Yes-ah...
Turn on your heartlight
Let it shine wherever you go
Let it make a happy glow
For all the world to see
Turn on your heartlight
In the middle of a young boy's dream
Don't wake me up too soon
Gonna take a ride across the moon
You and me

Evening Star
Here's the hallway at my school. I was the last one to leave last night, which means that I'm the most dedicated teacher (of Monday).

Race car driver
This is when my dad figured out that he would be driving a 600-hp NASCAR-style stock for his birthday. He was really, really happy.

Christmastime Carbs
This was the first Christmas party of the season for me. Good food good friends. This photo is dedicated to Laurie & Jason: I forgot my camera today and used theirs to take this shot. They're also loyal photo-a-day'ers. (I'll need a better nickname for my fans (that one would never make it on a t-shirt.))

We got an Apple TV for my birthday/Christmas present. It rocks. I have my Photo-a-Day as the screensaver. Oh Apple, how I love thee.

Pedro's Taco
Greg and I ate at Pedro's Taco is San Juan Capistrano. I thought it was the same chain as the San Clemente Pedro's Taco, but it wasn't. I was deeply disappointed at first, but then enjoyed an epic al pastor burrito.
btw, I desaturated the red channel to bring the focus onto the restaurant. That's actually a stop light on the left with cars braking.

Learning Curve
So, I just got this antique box camera--the Kodak Duaflex II. You can look through the top of it and take a picture (with a digital camera). It's tricky to focus and there's a lot of glare, but the idea is rad. Sadly, my battery died after the second shot, so this out-of-focus shot is my photo-a-day. I'll figure this out soon, then these shots will rock.

Kenny
Kenny plays in the Matt Maher Band; he rocked during Inspiration at Magic Mountain. Matt's band used our gear, so I was hanging out really close to the stage. btw, that was a big spotlight above his head (or it was God). Either way, it's a cool shot.

Dew'd
There was a bunch of morning dew on the grass in front of school today. I stopped and took a picture of this rare Southern California event.

Orange arch
I bought a carne asada burrito, as I watched the sun slowly descend over the smog-laden palm trees. The light hit the tacky orange arch just right.

A calm drive
Driving down the 10, I blindly took a few 4 second exposures. I photoshopped 3 of my favorite (lucky/random) shots. I did, however, plan to (vaguely) get the truck on the left.
